I am loving it!
I had no idea that learning to use a camera better would be so enjoyable. No clue that writing regularly would develop my eye for a better angle. No inkling that visual creativity could be so challenging and inspiring - and just plain fun!
The process of learning something new, of developing an appreciation for new skills, the challenge of seeking to appropriate new information is so - refreshing. Just like the air after a lovely slow rain, it tingles the senses and washes the dust away from a heart grown hard and calloused.
Often my eyes look at learning ahead with skeptical lenses. Goggles which ogle the difficulties and unlikelihoods. I forget that there is joy in discovering fresh vistas, new viewpoints, altered perceptions. I feel that I should know this or that lesson already. I forget that the process of acquiring information takes time.
And that it is the process, not always the product, that has value!
There is deep joy to be pulled from the depths of spiritual learning as well. As you and I walk our separate journeys, there are things we can learn, even in the curriculum of difficulty, that can become a part of the joyful experience that is life. If we choose to treat it that way...
I don't know about you, but I want to cultivate a heart for learning. Be open to what God has prepared as my lesson for today. Glean all the good that I can from His Word, so that my heart will grow in wisdom and insight and be refreshed enough to give something back to this world.
"It is senseless to pay tuition to educate a fool, since he has no heart for learning." Proverbs 17:16 NLT
Now, isn't that interesting?
You'll note that it isn't the prowess or speed or ability to learn that is being judged here - it is the willingness to learn that is at the heart of the matter.
You have no idea how much this encourages me! I have been wading through an incredibly difficult course in my life just lately - and it tells me that I am worth educating. That God in His wisdom has carefully thought out my lesson material, and laid it out for my benefit! It says that in my pain and trouble, I am not a fool!
Ah, friend! Are your lessons a steep learning curve for you today? Take heart! A heart for learning, that is! You have graduated into the school of hard knocks. You are a Chosen One, worthy of the refining process, being prepped for greater things!
God knows you are no fool. Your have been deemed ready for the tough stuff. So with your heart prepared to learn, lift your head and stand firm.
Who knows what unexpected joys are around the corner?
